Joomla! is nominated again for some Packt Publishing awards. You can vote for "Best Overall Open Source CMS" and "Best PHP Open Source CMS".

Joomla! has been nominated and has won many awards since the project started 3 years ago. I remember being in London at the first Joomla! Core Team Summit when we won the Best Linux/Open Source award and boy where we proud about that.

Today the Open Source Content Management System called Joomla! turned 3 years old and that's something to be proud of for everyone.

I had the honor to be part of the small core group that made the historical move to leave Mambo and start Joomla! to make sure the code and the CMS that so many people loved and used was going to stay Open Source and live forever.

No sleep for a few weeks

Once we found out what the plans where with Mambo we decided as a group that we couldn't accept that and went into silent mode while setting up a whole new infrastructure, communication channels and re-branding Mambo to Joomla!.

It took us a few weeks of working day and night and finally at 17 august 2005 we hit the button and made a public announcement about what we had been doing and where we would be going.

The Joomla! Days 2008 are past and I had a great time. The organization did a fine job, the food was great, the location was great, all great.

I found some time to meet some good Dutch friends like Robin, Wilco and Joris and some old and new Joomla! colleagues like Mitch, Louis, Alex, Johan, Hannes, James etc.

Mitch and I had a full house for our presentation which I didn't expect completely since I'm doing Joomla! 1.5 templates for over two years now and at a certain point you start to think everyone does the same while that clearly isn't the case.

Because I underestimated the interest and knowledge level a little my presentation may have been a little short and fast but on the other hand this created a lot of time to do a Q and A session.

During the day there was a lot of interest for content writing and the markup structure for content so Joris and I did a spontaneous session about it which ended in an interesting discussion between designers and webmasters.
